What is the procedure for veneers that require an elevated bite

How can teeth with missing intervals and no occlusal relationship be restored? Teeth with missing intervals and no occlusal relationship; or teeth with bilateral free loss (teeth in front and no teeth in the back), while the front teeth are heavily worn out and have lost their normal restorative space can be restored, using the method of occlusal reconstruction. Occlusal reconstruction refers to the process of occlusal treatment and restoration of the normal physiological function of the oromandibular system by improving or re-establishing the morphology and function of the occlusion to achieve coordination with the temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscles. In layman’s terms, it means that a new correct occlusal height (generally lower than the normal occlusal distance) is reestablished to restore the occlusal height and obtain a restorative gap for the purpose of restoring the missing tooth. After some necessary dental and periodontal treatments (such as scaling and filling) are done, the occlusal reconstruction is started. The basic steps of occlusal reconstruction: 1. Transitional denture restoration. Determine the correct occlusal height of the patient and restore the occlusal relationship by means of a movable denture denture (he) pad (that is, wearing a movable denture with an elevated occlusion) and adapt for 3-6 months. After the patient is able to accept the new height, then continue with the next step of treatment. 2. Permanent denture restoration, including three types of restorations: movable, fixed, and combined movable-fixed. ①The movable denture restoration takes less time and is less expensive, mainly by changing the movable denture dental pad to a movable denture with a metal tooth fitting surface, which can effectively prevent the re-decrease of the occlusal distance due to the wear of plastic teeth during use. ②For patients with missing intervals, fixed denture restoration can be performed depending on the condition of the teeth, but fixed denture restoration requires long time and high cost, and more teeth need to be restored with porcelain. ③For patients with bilateral free loss, a combined fixed-active restoration method can be used to restore the remaining anterior teeth with porcelain and the posterior teeth with the precision attachment of an active denture. In addition, implant restorations can be adopted according to the patient’s own situation. At the same time, patients with reduced occlusal distance of the whole mouth due to abrasion, patients with temporomandibular joint disease due to reduced occlusal distance, and patients with other congenital acquired diseases (such as congenital ectodermal dysplasia, acid erosion, trauma, etc.) leading to loss of occlusal relationship can be restored and treated by the above-mentioned occlusal reconstruction methods.
