Bei Sha Shen has the effects of nourishing Yin and moisturizing the lungs (nourishing the lungs by replenishing the fluid in the lungs), benefiting the stomach and generating fluid (nourishing the stomach by replenishing the fluid in the stomach). It is mainly used for treating lung-heat and dry cough, low phlegm and dry throat, and dry mouth. The usual dosage for decoction is 5-10g. Beisha ginseng is used in the treatment of lung-heat and dry cough with little sputum and dry throat, heat diseases that injure the fluids, dry mouth, irritable heat (irritable and sultry) and thirst. Clinically, Beisha ginseng is used to treat cough, sore and itchy throat, hoarse voice and other coughs caused by yin deficiency (deficiency of yin in the human body, resulting in dryness of the lungs that cannot be nourished), and is often used in combination with Szechuan Pei Mu and Loquat Leaf. Northern Radix Panax Ginseng is often used with Dendrobium, Bamboo, Maitake, etc. It can be used for the treatment of gastric yin deficiency or heat injury to gastric yin, insufficient fluid for thirst and dryness of the pharynx, reddish-red tongue, hidden pain in the stomach and epigastric region, cacophony (a feeling similar to hunger, emptiness with burning sensation in the stomach), and dry vomiting, etc. It is often used with Dendrobium, Bamboo, and Maitake. Beisha ginseng is not recommended for people with wind-cold cough and cold lungs and stomach. Beisha ginseng should not be used with quassia.
