A woman with a large abdomen and heavy dampness can take medicines such as Ginseng and Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Clearing Heat and Dispelling Dampness Granules, and Gentian and Liver Pills to drain the dampness under the guidance of a doctor. However, the specific medication needs to be decided by the doctor according to the patient’s other symptoms.
1. Ginseng and Atractylodes Macrocephalae, composed of ginseng, Poria, Atractylodes macrocephala (fried), Chinese yam, white lentil (fried), lotus seed, Semen Coix Seed (fried), and Semen Armeniacae. It is used in treating loose stools caused by weakness of the spleen and stomach, shortness of breath and cough, and tiredness of limbs. It is not suitable for patients with cold and fever.
2. Granules for Clearing Heat and Dispelling Dampness is composed of Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae, Rhizoma Pinelliae, Radix et Rhizoma Gangmai, Radix Astragali, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Rhizoma Chrysanthemum, and Fructus Chen Pi. It has the effect of clearing heat and dampness, benefiting qi and generating fluids (promoting the production of fluids by replenishing qi). It is used for treating fatigue of limbs, loss of appetite, body heat and dry mouth caused by summer dampness. It is not recommended for diabetic patients.
3. Gentian Diarrhea Liver Pill is composed of gentian, chaihu, scutellaria, gardenia (fried), zedoary, mouton, psyllium (salt fried) and so on. It is used for dizziness and redness caused by damp-heat of liver and gallbladder, tinnitus and deafness, dystocia and bitterness of mouth (pain in the area of dystocia and ribs, and bitterness in the mouth), redness of urine, and wet-heat leucorrhea. It should not be taken for a long time by people with weak spleen and stomach, and should be used with caution by pregnant women and people with stomach cold.
