What causes a fast heartbeat?

Tachycardia is the clinical term for a rapid heartbeat. Possible causes include physiologic factors, various types of tachyarrhythmias, hyperthyroidism, various organic heart diseases, and the use of certain medications.
1. Physiological factors: Tachycardia can occur in normal people under certain circumstances, such as nervousness, emotional excitement, strenuous exercise, cold and so on. Usually, the heart rate can return to normal after removing the triggering factors.
2. Various types of tachyarrhythmias: sinus tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia, atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia and so on, all of which can cause the heart rate to accelerate.
3. Hyperthyroidism: the body’s metabolic rate increases when the thyroid gland is hyperfunctional, blood circulation is accelerated, the heart does more work, and the heart rate increases.
4. Organic heart disease: Many organic heart diseases can also cause tachycardia, such as angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction precursor stage, cardiomyopathy, heart valve disease and so on.
5. The use of certain drugs: for example, a variety of anti-arrhythmic drugs, epinephrine, glucocorticoids and so on may cause tachycardia.
Tachycardia is recommended to go to the hospital as soon as possible to find out the cause of the tachycardia and get targeted treatment.
