Why is it difficult to have a bowel movement after a total hysterectomy

Difficulty in defecation after total hysterectomy may be caused by factors such as slowing down of gastrointestinal peristalsis, postoperative adhesion of intestinal tubes and peritoneum, and vacancy of uterus position. 1. Slowing down of gastrointestinal peristalsis: Some patients with total hysterectomy may have difficulty in defecation due to slowing down of gastrointestinal peristalsis as a result of prolonged bed rest and lack of exercise after surgery. If you are physically able to do so, appropriate activities, drinking plenty of water and eating foods rich in fiber can promote gastrointestinal peristalsis and improve defecation difficulties. 2. Postoperative adhesion of intestinal tubes and peritoneum: After total hysterectomy, patients may have postoperative adhesion of intestinal tubes and peritoneum, which will cause restriction of intestinal movement, thus causing difficulty in defecation. 3. Vacant uterus position: When the uterus is completely cut off, it leads to vacant uterus position in the pelvis, and there is obstacle to fecal discharge. If the patient has difficulty in defecation after total uterine excision, it is recommended that the patient go to a regular hospital to find out the cause of the disease.
