Is 37 degrees a fever in babies?

Normal pediatric body temperature is 36.9 ℃ – 37.5 ℃, so the baby’s body temperature of 37 ℃ in the normal range, not considered fever. Three parts are commonly used to measure body temperature, namely the oral cavity, armpit and anus. Normal anal temperature of children is between 36.5℃-37.5℃; oral temperature is between 36.2℃-37.3℃; axillary temperature is between 36℃-37℃. More than 0.5℃ above the normal range is called fever, not more than 38℃ is called hypothermia, and more than 39℃ is considered hyperthermia. Therefore, pediatric body temperature of 37℃ is in the normal range and there is no need to worry. The body temperature of children is slightly higher than that of adults because of the unstable function of the thermoregulatory center and a more vigorous metabolism, with the lowest body temperature at 2-6 in the morning and the highest temperature at 2-8 in the afternoon, fluctuating by about 0.6℃. Parents should pay close attention to the dynamics of the child’s body temperature, and in case of elevation, pay attention to timely reduction of fever, and if necessary, go to the pediatric department of the hospital for relevant examinations and symptomatic treatment according to the specific situation.
