Recently, I attended a seminar on “The First 1000 Days of Life” of the Chinese Society of Preventive Medicine, Child Health Branch, and gained a lot. I hope that those who have young children at home and those who are planning to be mothers will see this and fully understand that the first 1000 days of life is a critical period for laying down the quality of life. I. About iron It is recognized that iron deficiency will cause microcytic anemia. It is now believed that iron is important for mental development and that iron deficiency before the onset of anemia causes damage to the brain nerves, which in turn causes damage to IQ, and that this damage is irreversible. Children with iron deficiency suffer from inattention, memory loss, reduced comprehension, irritability, aggressive behavior, lower IQ, and can also cause breath-holding episodes. Therefore, children with irritability, nocturnal crying and poor attention span, especially from 6 months to 2 years of age, should take iron supplements from a preventive point of view. Foods that contain a lot of iron: pork liver, fish, animal blood. Plants such as spinach and fungus contain a lot of iron but have a very low absorption rate by the body. Zhang Huimin, Department of Pediatrics, Jinan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Second, zinc Most people used to think that zinc is related to anorexia. Nowadays, it is found that there are more than 400 kinds of zinc-containing enzymes in the human body, which is the most extensive nutritional element that affects the human body. The biological effects of zinc are summarized as follows: 1) DNA polymutase, which is involved in DNA replication and influences cell proliferation and growth and development; 2) RNA polymutase, which is involved in gene expression, hormone and enzyme synthesis; 3) alkaline phosphatase, which promotes calcium deposition in bone and bone hardening; 4) gustatory enzymes, which perceive taste and increase appetite; 5) digestive enzymes, which are involved in protein, starch and fructose digestion. All digestive enzymes contain zinc.6. Visual enzymes, maintain vision. Zinc deficiency can cause 1) loss of appetite and stunted growth; 2) low cellular immunity; 3) fetal growth disorders and malformations; 4) primary male infertility; 5) delayed healing of wounds and multiple mouth ulcers. Therefore, children with anorexia, heterophilia, growth retardation, immune deficiency, recurrent colds, dermatitis, tongue inflammation, map tongue, and acute non-infectious diarrhea should take zinc supplements. Pregnant mothers should also take zinc supplements. For prevention, take 5mg of zinc per day during the peri-pregnancy period and 5mg/d after pregnancy, 10mg/d during lactation, 5-10mg/d for infants and children from 6 to 24 months, and foods with high zinc content: liver of all animals, lean meat, fish, shellfish, egg yolk, nuts. Third, about calcium It is known that vitamin D can promote the absorption of calcium, and it is now believed that the vitamin is not only a vitamin, but that it has hormone-like effects and can be supplemented in adults. Children older than 6 months of age should be supplemented with 400 – 800 units of VitD daily as a precautionary measure. In addition, we are concerned about the issue of competitive inhibition of trace elements, modern research has shown that calcium, iron, zinc and other trace elements have their own absorption channels, each with their own transport proteins, so taking them together has no effect on absorption. It can also competitively inhibit the absorption of non-human trace elements such as lead. Whether it is macronutrients such as protein, lipids, carbohydrates or micronutrients such as calcium, iron, iodine, zinc, vitamins A, B, C, D, E, K, folic acid, etc., from pregnancy to 2 years of age, it is important to ensure a comprehensive and adequate supply to ensure the healthy development of intelligence and mental behavior as well as to influence the health and disease in adulthood.
