In order to ensure the accuracy of ultrasound examination results, we would like to introduce you the precautions to be taken before ultrasound examination, which you should be familiar with to avoid wasting your examination time. Examination requiring fasting Examination of the upper abdomen, such as the liver, gallbladder, bile duct, pancreas, adrenal gland, renal artery, left renal vein, abdominal vessels, retroperitoneum, upper abdominal masses, etc., requires examination after fasting, usually starting fasting after dinner the day before and examining on an empty stomach the next morning to ensure bile filling in the gallbladder and bile ducts and to reduce the interference of food and gas in the gastrointestinal tract, otherwise the examination results may be greatly affected . The quality of ultrasound images in these areas is easily disturbed by intestinal gas, so patients with abdominal distention or constipation are advised to take digestive drugs before the examination to help exhaustion or use a light cathartic agent such as a corkage to help defecate. Examinations that require bladder filling (commonly known as urine holding) Examination of the pelvis, bladder, prostate, seminal vesicle, lower ureter, lower abdominal mass, uterus, adnexa, early pregnancy, etc. requires bladder filling. You can drink 1000-1500 ml of water (or various beverages) 1-2 hours before the examination. Do not urinate after drinking water to fill the bladder for the examination. No special preparation is needed for those who are more than 3 months pregnant, but those who are suspected of having placenta praevia in mid to late pregnancy or those who need to know the condition of the cervix still need to drink water to fill the bladder before the examination. For the examination of the appendix, the bladder should also be filled (held) to help expel other causes of abdominal pain. Special cases 1. Barium for X-ray gastrointestinal imaging is a strong reflecting and absorbing agent for ultrasound. If there is residual barium in the gastrointestinal tract near the gallbladder and bile ducts, it will affect the ultrasound examination. Ultrasound examination should be done after three days of X-ray gastrointestinal angiography and two days of biliary system angiography. 2.Gastroscopy and colonoscopy should be done two days after ultrasound examination. 3, abdominal distension affects the observation of the gallbladder, bile duct and pancreatic image, can take lactase tablet three days after the examination. Precautions before gynecologic ultrasound examination 1. When performing gynecologic transabdominal and pregnancy less than three months, in order to avoid the influence of intestinal contents, especially gas, it is advisable to empty the stool before the examination, so that there is no fecal mass or barium residue in the intestine. 2.Drink 1000-1500ml of water (or various beverages) 1-2 hours before coming to the hospital, and do not urinate after drinking so that the bladder is moderately full to facilitate the examination. Obstetric patients who are more than 3 months pregnant have no special preparation, but those who have suspected placenta praevia in the middle and late stages of pregnancy or those who need to know the condition of the cervix still need to drink water to fill the bladder before doing the examination. 3, transvaginal ultrasound examination needs to be done after urination for those who have a history of sexual intercourse, and there is no need to hold urine. Special reminder: If the doctor finds that you are not ready for the examination, he will ask you to hold urine outside or ask you to come back another day when you are ready, because he is responsible for you and wants to give you a clearer examination so as not to miss the diagnosis and delay the disease. You understand the doctor.
