For the vast majority of people, if your heart beats at 60 to 100 beats per minute in a quiet state, then congratulations, your heart is beating normally. If your heart rate is below 60 or above 100, it is likely to be an arrhythmia. According to incomplete statistics, about 12 million people in China are suffering from arrhythmia, and they often have symptoms such as panic, chest pain, shortness of breath and weakness. The body’s entire blood supply depends on the heart beating constantly, and the amount of blood pumped out per minute depends on the amount of blood pumped out per beat multiplied by the number of heartbeats. If the heart beats too fast, the amount of blood pumped per beat will be significantly reduced, and even if the speed is accelerated, it may not be able to pump enough blood; if the heart beats too slowly, even if the amount of blood pumped per beat reaches the limit, the total amount of blood is still limited. In addition, there are abnormalities in the heartbeat rhythm, that is, the heartbeat is fast and slow or there is a sudden pause, etc., which can prevent the organs and tissues of the whole body from getting a steady supply of blood. All of this makes arrhythmia one of the most difficult medical problems in heart disease. Many kinds of organic heart diseases such as coronary heart disease and cardiomyopathy may cause arrhythmia, and almost all critical heart diseases such as myocardial infarction and heart failure are accompanied by arrhythmia. At the same time, not only the “heart” disease can cause arrhythmia, electrolyte, endocrine disorders, or autonomic dysfunction, even the basic health of people may also occur heart rhythm, frequency abnormalities, making arrhythmia into a common disease, multi-morbidity. The causes of arrhythmias are complex, and there are various treatments for them. For different pathogenesis, there are currently western drugs such as isoprenaline and atropine to increase myocardial autoregulation and/or accelerate conduction, and non-pharmacological therapies such as pacemakers, electrical defibrillation, and radiofrequency ablation to treat it. In some cases, the arrhythmia can also be relieved by reflex excitation of the vagus nerve using eye compression, massage of the carotid sinus, and pinching of the nose with forceful exhalation and breath holding. In addition, Chinese herbal medicine is also widely used in the treatment of arrhythmias in clinical practice.
