Exercises for Ankylosing Spondylitis

Patients with ankylosing spondylitis can exercise through spinal stretching, moderate aerobic exercise, balance and plyometrics to ease the progression of the disease and promote functional recovery.
1. Spinal stretching: It is the core of exercise for ankylosing spondylitis patients, which can effectively improve the mobility of the spine and delay the time of functional impairment of the spine. Common examples include chest expansion, back stretching, neck stretching, upper back stretching and shoulder stretching.
2. Moderate aerobic exercise: It can help patients improve their cardiorespiratory capacity, promote blood circulation, enhance muscle strength, and help increase spinal stability. Common exercises include swimming, cycling and jogging.
3. Balance and muscle strength training: Ankylosing myelitis patients are very prone to hunching over, which affects their balance and makes them walk unsteadily. Common exercises include squatting against the wall, hip bridge exercise, cat stretch, etc., to help patients increase the strength of the lower limbs and central axis muscles, maintain body stability, improve muscle balance and reduce the risk of falling.
It is difficult to achieve a complete cure through rehabilitation exercises alone. It is recommended that patients undergo treatment under the guidance of a professional doctor, who will develop a training program, and do not exercise blindly to avoid adverse consequences.
