If you want to know whether the fracture has reached the root of the tooth, it is best to consult your doctor for a flat film. If the fracture is large and the root of the tooth is involved, the horizontal or vertical line of the fracture can usually be detected during the plain film examination. If the horizontal or vertical line cannot be accurately detected during the plain film examination, CT examination may be needed. Active medical attention is needed after a molar splits. If the split is not severe, restorative treatment may be performed, and if the root has been involved, root canal treatment may be needed to avoid worsening symptoms. If there is no need for retention, prompt extraction may be necessary.
