Broken braces wires can cause a change in the force on the teeth, which may affect the results of orthodontic treatment, and the broken ends of the wires may also irritate the oral mucosa causing damage. It is possible to cut the end of the wire and replace it with a new one.
1. Cutting the end: If the wire is thicker nickel-titanium square wire or stainless steel wire, in order to avoid damaging the oral mucosa and causing traumatic ulcers, it is possible to cut off part of the broken end and place it on the broken end to cushion the stimulation with orthodontic protective wax.
2. Replacement of new arch wire: After removing the wire, replace it with a new one and ligate and fix it. The end of the buccal tube is prepped and bent back to prevent dislocation of the archwire.
If the wire of the braces breaks, you should contact the orthodontist in time for follow-up treatment. You should also refrain from eating anything too hard during orthodontic treatment, take care to brush your teeth gently, and follow up with your appointments.
