Can HIV be passed on from mother to baby?

AIDS is not a hereditary disease and is not passed on from mother to baby. AIDS is an infectious disease, and vertical transmission from mother to child is a very important mode of transmission of AIDS. For people with AIDS, there is a risk of transmitting HIV to the baby during pregnancy, during birth, and later in life during close contact. Therefore, if a person with AIDS needs to become pregnant, he or she should plan the pregnancy and undergo formal mother-to-child interruption before pregnancy. Without formal interruption, the baby has a higher chance of being infected with HIV.
