Is a normal chest x-ray normal for the lungs?

A normal chest radiograph does not necessarily mean that the lungs are normal. If a patient has symptoms of asthma or cough variant asthma, a chest radiograph often does not show any abnormalities and a bronchodilator test or bronchial excitation test is required to confirm the type of lesion. Confirmation of the presence of symptoms of airway hyperresponsiveness indicates that a normal chest radiograph is not proof that the lungs are normal. If asthma or cough variant asthma does exist, long-term anti-asthma therapy is required. Adults can inhale Symbicort directly for anti-asthma treatment and chew a chewable tablet of montelukast sodium before going to bed. In addition, if mild inflammation of the lungs occurs, chest x-rays are often more normal, and a chest CT is the only way to confirm the diagnosis at this time. In the case of mild bronchitis or pneumonia, hospitalization is required for treatment and appropriate antibiotics or antiviral medications need to be given depending on the type of infection.
