How to perform gallbladder systolic function test

The gallbladder systolic function test has two main applications. On the one hand, if the patient has a single stone in the gallbladder and is willing to have a biliary stone retrieval. In this case, the gallbladder contraction test is done to see if the patient has gallbladder contraction. The patient will have the size and diameter of the gallbladder measured by ultrasound on an empty stomach without food or water, and then the size and diameter of the gallbladder will be measured after eating fatty foods or a normal diet. If there is contraction of the gallbladder and the gallbladder is emptying, it proves that the gallbladder is contracting well. If there is no emptying of the gallbladder and the gallbladder is not obviously smaller, it should be considered that the patient has no contraction of the gallbladder or the gallbladder is no longer functional, then gallbladder preservation and laparoscopic cholecystectomy cannot be performed. Another situation is that the patient has gallbladder atrophy, or the gallbladder becomes smaller, so it is necessary to do gallbladder contraction function test to see if the gallbladder has contraction function after atrophy. If there is contractile function, it can be moderately observed for a period of time, but the observation period should not be too long. If there is no contractile function, laparoscopic cholecystectomy should be actively considered, and pathological examination should be routinely sent after the surgery.
