What does sgpt mean?

SGPT is glutamate aminotransferase, also known as glutamate-pyruvate transferase, alanine aminotransferase, or abbreviated as ALT, and is one of the liver function tests. SGPT is mainly found in various cells of the body, especially in liver cells, followed by skeletal muscle, kidney and heart muscle. In normal times, glutathione is present in the cells, and the amount in the blood is very low. For various reasons, such as acute and chronic viral hepatitis, alcohol and drugs, causing liver injury, fatty liver, liver cancer, cirrhosis, intra- and extra-hepatic cholestasis, shock, infectious mononucleosis and other reasons that damage the liver cells, the cell membrane permeability of liver cells will increase, and glutathione will leak out from the liver cells to outside the hepatocytes and into the blood, resulting in increased levels of glutathione in the blood. Damage to skeletal muscle, heart muscle, and kidneys can also lead to elevated levels of glutathione in the blood.
