How to get better treatment for hernia patients

Hernia, also known recently as hernia disease, is a very frequent condition. It has many causes, and the more stereotypical view is that it is an abnormal collagen fiber metabolism disorder. The current definitive and effective treatment is surgical repair, while conservative medical treatment to correct abnormalities in collagen fiber metabolism has not yet made substantial clinical progress. How can patients with hernia be better treated? The author believes that this is a question that always deserves serious consideration and in-depth study by treating physicians. In terms of abdominal hernia, there are several common hernias, such as inguinal hernia, inguinal hernia, umbilical hernia and abdominal wall incisional hernia. With the improvement of surgical techniques and equipment, the repair of these hernias will gradually be replaced by laparoscopic repair procedures. Why do the majority of practicing surgeons still use the traditional open procedure for repair? The main reasons for this are the operator’s philosophy of repair, the limitations of the surgical repair conditions, and, of course, the patient’s physical condition. However, this situation is bound to change gradually over time. With the continuous improvement and refinement of laparoscopic repair procedures and the promotion and popularity of modern hernia repair concepts, the application of laparoscopic repair of large patches in the preperitoneal space covering the pubococcygeal foramen and intraperitoneal anti-adhesion patches for incisional hernia, parastomal hernia and umbilical hernia will gradually replace the traditional open repair procedures. This is because traditional open repair is bound to bring about painful stab wounds and possible complications, whereas laparoscopic hernia repair will hardly add another cut to the already weakened diseased abdominal wall area, further aggravating the abdominal wall damage, and more notably, the laparoscopic hernia repair method is more biomechanical, resulting in more definite and reliable repair results. Therefore, this is the closest repair method to the modern hernia repair concept. In addition, this new repair method has another advantage over the traditional open repair that cannot be ignored: less damage, less pain, faster recovery and higher quality of life.
