When should my baby receive his first oral examination?

Infants and children should be taken to the hospital by their parents for a dental check-up within 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth, i.e. within the first week of age. You can also ask the dentist to check the condition of the newly erupted teeth in the baby’s mouth during a routine check-up at one year of age. Parents can learn about children’s oral health care, such as how to clean children’s teeth and whether they need to use fluoride toothpaste. If a child does not have a single milk tooth after one year of age, or if a tooth comes in shortly after birth, he or she should also go to the hospital for a checkup to be judged by the doctor as normal. Thereafter, children should have their teeth checked every 3 to 6 months to detect cavities and other oral diseases and intervene early.
