Difference between pharyngitis and laryngitis

The difference between pharyngitis and pharyngolaryngitis lies in the different lesion sites, different symptoms and different clinical manifestations.
1. Different lesion sites: pharynx and larynx are different anatomical sites. Pharyngitis mainly refers to the inflammation of the pharyngeal cavity, including the nasopharyngeal cavity, oropharyngeal cavity, the location of involvement is relatively shallow; pharyngolaryngitis, including pharyngitis and laryngitis, in addition to the involved parts of the nasopharyngeal cavity, oropharyngeal cavity, but also includes the location of the deeper laryngopharyngeal cavity.
2. Symptoms are different: pharyngitis symptoms are mainly manifested as pharyngeal discomfort, pharyngeal itching, pharyngeal pain, burning sensation, foreign body sensation and other symptoms. In addition to the above symptoms, pharyngitis may also manifest as hoarseness, dyspnea, dysphagia and so on.
3. Different clinical manifestations: pharyngitis can be seen in the examination of pharyngeal congestion, the posterior wall of the pharynx can be accompanied by follicular hyperplasia. In addition to the above manifestations, laryngitis can also be manifested as congestion and edema of the mucous membrane of the larynx, congestion and edema of the vocal cords, and even vocal cord nodules or vocal cord polyps.
Pharyngitis and laryngitis, most of the symptoms are similar, it is difficult to distinguish between the two diseases simply by symptoms, it is recommended to consult a doctor, do the relevant examination, to clarify the scope of the lesion before treatment.
