Please turn off the video terminal, especially for toddlers

In the clinic, parents often ask: Can their children watch TV or play on the computer or not? How long is appropriate? In fact, in today’s information society, video information has become more and more popular. Watching videos is no longer just a cultural and educational issue about how children spend their entertainment time or whether the content of the video programs they watch is appropriate, it has become a medical issue. Developed countries abroad have long recognized this problem, for example, France has banned television programs for children under the age of 3, and medical associations and health departments in countries such as the United States and Canada have given guiding recommendations for children’s video viewing. The author believes that this advice is also a great guide for parents in China. 1. Delay the age at which children watch videos, and try not to watch them until they are at least 3 years old. (80% of brain development occurs within the age of 3, and the brain is particularly vulnerable during this period.) 2. Encourage parents not to put video equipment in children’s bedrooms. 3. Parents of young children are advised to choose video content for their children that has a lower rate, little novelty, and more of a single story system. 4. Parents are encouraged to monitor and control the amount of time their children spend playing games and watching video programs on their laptops. 5.The ideal time to watch videos should be limited to 0.5-1 hour per day for children aged 3-7 years, 1 hour per day for children aged 7-12 years, 1.5 hours per day for children aged 12-15 years, and 2 hours per day for children aged 16 years and older.
