Arthroscopy report interpretation

The arthroscopy report includes examination items, examination findings and diagnostic opinions. According to the examination site, arthroscopy can be divided into shoulder arthroscopy, wrist arthroscopy, interphalangeal arthroscopy, hip arthroscopy, knee arthroscopy, etc. What is seen on examination is the changes in the joint cavity seen by the doctor under the arthroscope. Common microscopic diagnoses: meniscal injury, synovial lesion, ligament injury, tendon inflammatory congestion, rotator cuff injury, etc. 1.Meniscus injury Meniscus thickness thinning, can be rough and uneven form, free edge more petal-like fracture, depth varies. In mild cases, non-surgical treatment, such as the use of knee pads and physiotherapy, is the main treatment, and most of them can heal on their own. If the patient suddenly develops severe pain during joint extension and flexion activities and is afraid to continue activities after the joint is fixed in a certain position, the meniscus needs to be partially or completely removed by arthroscopy. 2. Synovial lesions Suggesting traumatic synovitis of the knee joint, patients are advised to use elastic bandages or plaster rests for relative braking, but also to implement appropriate muscle exercises according to the patient’s specific situation. For patients with obvious swelling of the joint, puncture and fluid extraction can be performed under strict aseptic operation. 3, ligament injury Suggesting anterior cruciate ligament injury or posterior cruciate ligament injury, it is recommended that patients with incomplete rupture can take plaster fixation and perform quadriceps contraction training early. Patients with severe ligament injury can undergo ligament reconstruction surgery under arthroscopy. 4, tendon inflammatory congestion Suggests biceps long head tendonitis, patients preferred conservative treatment, such as cold compresses, rest, reduce the amount of exercise, etc.. Arthroscopic treatment can also be performed according to the actual situation of the patient. 5. Rotator cuff injury suggests shoulder impingement. Patients are advised to take early conservative treatment, such as avoiding actions that may cause impingement, local physical therapy or using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. If the rotator cuff injury is severe, the patient is advised to undergo rotator cuff repair.
