Treatment of congenital heart disease Congenital heart disease is one of the common congenital malformations in children. The more common ones are ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect, arteriovenous ductus arteriosus, etc. There are also “complex congenital heart diseases” such as tetralogy of Fallot, atrial septal defect, pulmonary atresia, aortic constriction, aortic arch dissection and transposition of the great arteries. About 1/3 of children with precardiac disease are in critical condition within 6 months of birth, and about 1/2 of them die within 1 year after birth due to serious heart malformations. Therefore, “early detection, early diagnosis and early surgery” is an important principle to improve the prognosis of children with congenital heart disease. The diagnosis of congenital heart disease often begins with the child’s discovery of “heart murmur”, “purple lips and mouth”, “recurrent pneumonia” and so on. Surgery is the main treatment for congenital heart disease, and most of them can be cured, but for a few children with pulmonary atresia, palliative surgery can be used to relieve symptoms. Generally, a median chest incision is used, but nowadays the application of minimally invasive, small incision, thoracoscopic and cardiac catheterization (interventional) technologies has further reduced the trauma to the child. Our cardiovascular surgery team is highly skilled and well-equipped, and our attending specialists have nearly 20 years of clinical experience, having studied in Canada and at the Fu Wai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing and the Guangdong Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Guangdong Province, and can perform the above surgical treatments well.
