What does anterior and posterior vaginal wall mean

The vagina can be divided into anterior and posterior vaginal walls based on its anatomical location, with the anterior wall generally being the side near the pubic bone and the posterior wall being the side near the anus. The vagina is a muscular canal composed of mucous membranes, muscular layers and outer membranes and belongs to the female internal reproductive organs. The vagina consists of an anterior wall, a posterior wall, and two side walls together, and is an important passageway for menstrual discharge and fetal delivery. The anterior wall is located in the center of the lower part of the true pelvis, and the posterior wall is close to the anus and the rectum. Clinically, some women will experience bulging of the anterior or posterior wall of the vagina after pregnancy, which can lead to lumbosacral pain, falling sensation, urinary incontinence, rectal irritation and other manifestations; and the vagina, no matter whether it is the anterior wall or the posterior wall, is more prone to infections, which can lead to vulvar discomfort and other manifestations.
