At present, it is difficult to cure open-angle glaucoma. There are two kinds of open-angle glaucoma, primary and secondary, which are usually treated with medication, and then controlled by surgical treatment if medication is ineffective.
1. Primary open-angle glaucoma: primary open-angle glaucoma is mostly considered to be related to genetic, high myopia, hemodynamics, diabetes, etc. It is mainly maintained by lowering intraocular pressure with medications such as carteolol, burkholderine, brinzolamide, etc. If the effect of medication is not satisfactory, trabeculectomy can be performed. If the effect of medication is not satisfactory, trabeculectomy and implantation of glaucoma drainage device can be performed.
2. Secondary open-angle glaucoma: Secondary open-angle glaucoma may be caused by ocular diseases, such as ocular trauma and inflammation of the anterior segment of the eye. The intraocular pressure can be controlled by drugs such as brimonidine eye drops and latanoprost; and combined with the medication of the primary disease, for example, if combined with inflammation of the anterior segment of the eye, atropine eye drops can be used; in addition, laser treatment and trabecular ablation can also be used.
When suffering from open-angle glaucoma, it is recommended to actively seek medical treatment to control the condition in order to improve the prognosis and quality of life. Drugs should be used in strict accordance with the doctor’s instructions, do not blindly use drugs on their own.
