Common causes of high prothrombin time include vitamin K deficiency, long-term use of anticoagulant drugs, and congenital coagulation factor deficiency.
Treatment should be carried out according to the cause, such as supplementing vitamin K, adjusting medication or transfusing plasma products.
1. Vitamin K deficiency: Vitamin K is mainly involved in the composition of coagulation factors, and its deficiency will lead to elevated prothrombin time. Vitamin K can be supplemented by eating more vitamin K-rich animal offal and green vegetables in daily life.
2. Long-term use of anticoagulant drugs: such as warfarin, which is a kind of vitamin K antagonist, long-term use will lead to elevated prothrombin time. The use of anticoagulant drugs can be suspended, while eating more food rich in vitamin K, stopping the drug should be carried out under the guidance of a doctor.
3. Congenital coagulation factor deficiency: such as prothrombinogen (factor II), factor V, factor VII, factor X, fibrinogen deficiency, can lead to prolongation of exogenous coagulation pathway and elevation of prothrombinogen time. For the deficiency of coagulation factors, medication can be administered according to the different coagulation factors correspondingly, and plasma complexes or transfusion of plasma can also be applied.
High prothrombin time suggests timely consultation, under the guidance of the doctor to identify the causes, targeted treatment, avoid blind self-medication.
