Sishenwan Composition

Si Shen Wan is a Chinese patent medicine, which is a basic formula for the treatment of diarrhea-type diseases caused by deficiency of the spleen and kidney. It is composed of Boneset, Wu Ju Ju, Nutmeg, Wu Wei Zi and Jujube. It is usually used for patients with symptoms such as deficiency of spleen and kidney, lack of food and drink, and indigestion, and is especially effective in treating patients with five-shift diarrhea. The five herbs in Sishenwan are all warm in nature, including Boneset, which has the effect of warming the kidneys and helping Yang, warming the spleen and stopping diarrhea; Cornus officinalis, which disperses cold and stops pain, and helps Yang to stop diarrhea; Nutmeg, which has the effect of warming the spleen and warming the stomach, fixing astringency and stopping diarrhea; Wu Wei Zi, which is astringent and fixes astringency; and Dazao, which nourishes the spleen and nourishes the stomach. Therefore, several drugs work together to warm the kidney and disperse cold, astringent to stop diarrhea. The warm nature of this medicine also determines that patients with damp-heat diarrhea and damp-heat diarrhea should not take it, otherwise it may aggravate the symptoms. A small number of patients may also suffer from allergies after taking it, so they should follow medical advice.
