Yuan Zhi is often used clinically with Poria, Cinnabar and Acorus calamus to treat insomnia; it is often used with almonds and Szechuan Bei Mu to treat cough and phlegm; Yuanzhi is bitter and pungent in nature, and belongs to the heart, kidney and lung meridians. It has the efficacy of tranquilizing the spirit and wisdom, communicating with the heart and kidney (the fire of the heart descends, the water of the kidney rises, and each other controls), dispelling phlegm, and eliminating swelling. Clinically, it is often used in combination with Poria and Zhu Sha to treat insomnia and forgetfulness caused by the lack of communication between the heart and kidney (the heart fire is strong, the kidney yin is deficient, and the physiological functions of the heart and the kidney are in disarray). Yuan Zhi bitter warm and pungent dry, can dispel phlegm cough, mostly used to treat phlegm sticky, not easy to cough out symptoms, often with bitter almonds, Sichuan Beimu, Platycodonopsis and other phlegm cough medicines used in conjunction. For the use of Yuan Zhi’s combination of clinicians need to identify the treatment of medication, do not recommend their own random combination of medication, so as not to produce adverse reactions aggravate the condition.
