In general, normal people do not have ascites in the abdominal cavity, a small amount of fluid in the abdominal cavity to lubricate, can not be called ascites, so the emergence of ascites indicates that there are abnormalities in the body, under normal circumstances, the number of nucleated cells in the ascites routine is generally 0. 1. Ascites routine is generally used to distinguish between exudate or leakage fluid, ascites can be divided into exudate and leakage fluid, of which exudate nucleated cell count is often higher than 500×10^6/L; and leakage fluid nucleated cell count is often lower than 100×10^6/L. 2. Leakage fluid is mostly transparent liquid with specific gravity lower than 1.018, and the cell classification is dominated by lymphocytes and mesothelial cells. Exudate is turbid, with specific gravity higher than 1.018. Neutrophils and lymphocytes are the main cells according to different etiologic factors. 3. The production of leakage fluid is mostly due to the reduction of plasma colloid osmotic pressure (such as cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome caused by hypoproteinemia), increased fluid venous pressure in the capillaries (such as chronic congestive heart failure, etc.), or lymphatic vessel obstruction (such as filariasis). Exudate formation can be due to infectious (e.g., bacterial, viral, etc.) and non-infectious causes (e.g., rheumatic diseases, trauma, etc.). Therefore, if ascites occurs, it means that there are abnormalities in the body, and it is recommended to go to the hospital immediately, complete the relevant tests and examinations to clarify the nature and cause of ascites, and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
