Why kids with allergies should see a specialist

In the last 30 years, the prevalence of allergic diseases has increased at least threefold, involving 22% of the world’s population and ranking as the sixth most common chronic disease in the world, and this “disease of the rich and famous”, which used to be prevalent only in Western developed countries, has begun to grow rapidly in China. The overall prevalence of allergic diseases in China is 10-20%, and the prevalence in children is even higher. Since allergy is a systemic disease, many people suffer from multiple diseases and consult dermatology, respiratory medicine, otorhinolaryngology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, and children’s health care, which increases the difficulty of diagnosis and the effectiveness of treatment. In view of the characteristics of allergic diseases, a “one-stop” systematic assessment, standardized and rational diagnosis and treatment is carried out. At the same time, a multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment model is established to make the best diagnosis and treatment plan for allergic diseases. First, identify the cause of the disease, find the allergens, and take targeted measures to protect against allergens, so as to reduce or avoid the occurrence of allergic diseases. Secondly, to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of allergy and improve the quality of life. Thirdly, food allergy should be reassessed to provide guidance on the addition of complementary foods and when to introduce relevant foods to allergic children. Fourth, for some allergic diseases, specific immunotherapy, or desensitization therapy, can be done, such as rhinitis and asthma caused by allergies to dust mites, molds and pollen. Desensitization treatment can reduce or stop the use of symptomatic treatment of drugs, to avoid the side effects of long-term use of drugs, but also to prevent new allergies, to prevent further development of rhinitis into asthma. Fifth, give advice on preventive vaccination for children with allergy. Sixth, multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment of difficult cases.
