Feeling something wiggling in the ear but not being able to pull it out may be related to cerumen, foreign bodies in the ear canal, and secretory otitis media.
1. Cerumen: Excessive secretion of ceruminous glands in the external auditory canal and poor drainage can cause cerumen to form patches or clumps, which can be dislodged to the deeper part of the ear canal, and when stimulated by bobbing the head or walking around, it can cause the cerumen to hit the tympanic membrane, resulting in the symptoms mentioned above.
2. Foreign body in ear canal: after hair or insect enter into ear canal, it can fall into the deep part of ear canal, and when it has contact with tympanic membrane, it can be felt that there is something shaking in the ear when vibrating and chewing, but it can’t be pulled out.
3. Secretory otitis media: when various reasons cause secretory otitis media, it can lead to fluid accumulation in the middle ear, when the head moves, there can be a feeling of fluid accumulation in the tympanic chamber, but can’t be pulled out.
When you feel something shaking in the ear but can’t pull it out, there are other possibilities, so you can actively seek medical treatment and systematic examination to make a clear diagnosis.
