Alum is a mineral with certain medicinal properties.
Alum is a compound salt composed of potassium sulfate and aluminum sulfate in the form of crystalline water, chemical formula KAl(SO4)2-12H2O, with certain chemical properties, such as dissolving in water is acidic, and will form a colloidal precipitate of aluminum hydroxide.
Alum belongs to the minerals of traditional Chinese medicine, in the “Lei Gong Gun Zhi Lun”, “Wu Pu Materia Medica” and other records, generally for external use, but also has a certain value of internal use.
In Chinese medicine, alum is sour, astringent and cold. It belongs to lung, spleen, liver and large intestine meridians. It can be used externally to dry dampness and relieve itching, detoxify and kill insects; internally, it has the functions of stopping bleeding, resolving phlegm and stopping diarrhea. In western medicine, it is mainly used to treat internal hemorrhoids, prolapsed anus and uterine prolapse.
When used as a traditional Chinese medicine, it needs to be used under the guidance of a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. Do not use medicine without authorization, so as not to affect the condition.
