What does atrophic gastritis with intestinalization mean?

Atrophic gastritis with enterosis means that the gastric mucosa has developed atrophic lesions and is accompanied by chemosis of the intestinal epithelium. More specifically, it means that the number of intrinsic glands of the gastric mucosa is reduced or even disappears, and in severe cases the gastric mucosa becomes thin. Intestinal metaplasia means that the intrinsic glands of the stomach are replaced by intestinal glands, which simply means that the epithelium of the gastric mucosa is transformed into the epithelial tissue of the small or large intestine. If the epithelium of gastric or intestinal metaplasia develops abnormally during the regeneration process, it can form heterogeneous hyperplasia, which is also called atypical hyperplasia and is a precancerous lesion of gastric cancer. In other words, the possibility of atrophic gastritis with intestinal transformation into gastric cancer is very high. Therefore, it is recommended that patients with definite atrophic gastritis with intestinalization must be treated regularly, and they should be reviewed and followed up regularly.
