What should I do if my child has a short penis?

Some parents may find that their child’s penis is short in appearance, and in severe cases it is only a small cone shape, more obvious when sitting. In the morning or urination when the penis erection exposed can be increased, but usually “hide” and disappeared, what is going on? The penis is short, there are real and fake, among which pseudo-penis short is more common, and pseudo-penis short is the most common with the occult penis. This disease is mostly due to the flesh membrane directly attached to the front of the penis body and abnormal development, forming a fibrous band, thus limiting the penis exposed, while the shallow fascia and the penis body are not attached and the poor elasticity of the flesh membrane aggravates the degree of concealment, combined with the narrow foreskin mouth, so that the head of the penis can not be exposed, these together cause the unique appearance of the concealed penis. The pathogenesis of occult penis and simple obesity are different. In the case of simple obesity, the skin of the penis is often well attached to the front of the pubic bone, and many children can improve on their own with age and weight loss, and many children can heal on their own through weight loss and exercise. For children with hypoplastic penile membranes and fibrous cords that restrict the exposure of the penis, they cannot heal on their own and need to be treated surgically. In severe cases, the foreskin of the occult penis is already seriously insufficient, and circumcision is contraindicated in accordance with the circumcision of children with prepuce, otherwise it will not only fail to cure the disease, but will affect the appearance of the penis even more. With the deepening of the understanding of the disease, it is generally considered appropriate to operate on the occult penis as early as possible to avoid the psychological impact on the child. The surgery can be performed when the penis has developed to a certain extent (around 1-2 years old). What should be noted in the treatment of occult penis? First of all, it is necessary to identify the pseudo-penile shortening caused by simple obesity. Simple obesity can be improved to a certain extent through effective weight loss. Some children who are obese and also have anaphylaxis cannot be cured by simple weight loss and need surgery to correct the problem at the same time. Surgery can be performed after weight loss to achieve satisfactory results. If the child is already older and the need for treatment is urgent, he or she may choose to undergo surgery before weight loss is effective, but effective weight loss must be carried out after surgery to avoid obesity affecting the surgical results or even causing recurrence of symptoms. In addition to controlling the diet and eating less and exercising more to control the body shape, one should avoid being sedentary after surgery for occult penis.
