Can children with astigmatism heal on their own?

A child’s eyes that have astigmatism usually do not heal on their own, and not only do they not heal on their own, but many children may have a mild increase in astigmatism as they get older. Astigmatism in children’s eyes is mainly due to irregularities in the shape of the cornea and the degree of astigmatism is usually not too large. Therefore, the treatment for this condition depends on how much astigmatism affects vision. If astigmatism does not affect vision, this condition usually does not need to be treated and glasses are not needed. However, if astigmatism causes significant vision loss or typical eye fatigue, glasses should be worn early to improve corrected vision, maintain clear visual quality, and reduce the chance of eye fatigue.
