Are small nodules in the upper lobes of both lungs serious?

Whether a small nodule in the upper lobe of both lungs is serious or not needs to be judged according to the size and nature of the nodule. Generally, nodules are divided into 3 cases: ground glass nodules, partially solid nodules and solid nodules. Ground glass nodules less than 5mm are mostly benign chronic inflammatory nodules, which are not serious. If the nodules are partially solid nodules with short burr, lobulated, pleural pulling sign, pleural depression sign and other changes, especially if the nodules are larger than 8mm, it is necessary to be alert to the possibility of early lung cancer, and to give enhanced CT examination of the chest and percutaneous lung aspiration cell histological biopsy if necessary, in order to clarify whether the nodules have early cancerous changes as early as possible. Once cancer occurs, it means that the nodules are serious in nature and can be treated with early surgical intervention by a thoracic surgeon, or combined with other comprehensive treatments such as medical radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In conclusion, small nodules in the upper lobes of both lungs are not serious if they are benign, but are more serious once lung cancer occurs.
