Skin acne is usually caused by Propionibacterium acnes infection, abnormal sebaceous gland secretion and discharge, abnormal keratinization of hair follicle openings, and poor lifestyle and dietary habits, etc. Treatments include general treatment, topical medications, systemic medications, physical and chemical treatments, etc., which should be chosen according to the individual’s actual condition.
General treatment mainly involves lifestyle and skin care precautions, including reducing the intake of high-sugar, dairy products and oily foods, trying to have a regular work routine, not staying up late, keeping the bowels clear, choosing appropriate oil-controlling and moisturizing cleansers and skin care products, not over-cleaning the skin, and not squeezing the acne with your fingers.
Topical medication is the main treatment for mild to moderate acne. You can choose retinoids such as adapalene gel, which has the effect of improving the keratinization of follicular sebaceous gland ducts and dissolving microcomedones, etc. Antibacterials such as benzoyl peroxide gel and fusidic acid cream can also be used to inhibit the reproduction of microorganisms such as Propionibacterium acnes.
Systemic medications include oral antibiotics such as minocycline and doxycycline to inhibit microbial reproduction, and oral retinoids such as isotretinoin and vinblastine for nodular cystic severe acne.
In addition, physical therapy such as red and blue light irradiation, fractional laser, photodynamic therapy, and chemical peeling therapy are helpful in the adjuvant treatment of acne and the repair of sequelae.
All of the above medications and treatments should be used under medical supervision. It is recommended that patients who develop acne should seek prompt medical attention and follow the doctor’s instructions.
