What is the survival period after surgery for stage 2b lung cancer?

After surgery for stage 2b lung cancer, about 50% of patients can achieve 5-year survival. Lung cancer stage 2b refers to the lesions with tumor diameter less than 7 cm and lymph node metastasis in the ipsilateral hilar or peribronchial or intrapulmonary. The treatment is mainly surgical resection, total resection followed by adjuvant chemotherapy, and the 5-year survival rate is about 50%, which may be shortened if the patient’s physical condition is not good enough to accept chemotherapy, or if the patient refuses to accept chemotherapy due to his/her own reasons. After surgery for stage 2b lung cancer, according to the 8th edition of TNM staging of lung cancer, the 5-year survival rate is around 53%. Although it is not very precise, the 5-year life expectancy can reach 50%-60% after receiving surgery and regular postoperative treatment. With aggressive and standardized treatment, many patients with lung cancer may become chronically ill, allowing survival beyond 5 years. After surgery for stage 2b lung cancer, it is important to have active treatment and regular rechecks under doctor’s guidance.
