What is the abdominal breathing method for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

The abdominal breathing method for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) refers to the use of abdominal breathing exercises to re-establish physiologic breathing patterns, improve the patient’s respiratory efficiency, and alleviate or control the acute symptoms of COPD patients. The patient is placed in a supine position with the legs semi-bent and a fluffy pillow placed under the popliteal fossa of each leg. The patient then relaxes all parts of the body and places both hands on the anterior chest or abdomen, relaxing the abdominal muscles to raise the abdomen and tighten and lower the diaphragm on inhalation, and tightening the abdominal muscles to sink the abdomen and relax the diaphragm back to its original position on exhalation. Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are advised to consult a doctor in a timely manner and be treated actively under the guidance of a physician.
