Acute mastitis early tui na massage therapy

Acute mastitis is a common worry for young mothers who are breastfeeding. In the early stages of the disease, there is often an accumulation of milk from various causes, and there is painful localized swelling in one or both breasts, and hard lumps may appear in the breast within a short period of time. If the disease is not effectively treated and the bacteria become retrograde infections along the milk ducts or lymphatic ducts, the symptoms may include chills and fever, nausea and thirst, chest tightness and vomiting, and generalized pain. In mild cases, normal breastfeeding may be affected, and in severe cases, surgery may be required due to the accumulation of pus in the breast. Because the health care conditions are much better than before, most young mothers seek early treatment at the early stage of the disease, i.e., when there is just milk accumulation without bacterial infection, so it is not common to see patients who undergo surgical incision and drainage due to pus accumulation. For milk stagnation, conventional treatments such as hot compresses, intensive breastfeeding and manual evacuation of milk can basically solve the problem. However, in a large number of outpatient clinics, we do encounter patients with “stubborn” lactation: they often go to many hospitals and try many methods, but they are not effective. In fact, at this time, we can also try to cooperate with the traditional Chinese medicine massage to treat, often will turn around, most of the problems may be solved. The use of traditional Chinese medicine massage to unblock the milk can play a role in harmonizing the qi and blood, unblocking the milk ducts, cooling the blood and relieving toxins, dispersing nodes and relieving pain. Massage is known as “green therapy” abroad, that is, no toxic side effects during treatment, and does not affect the normal lactation. Specific methods are briefly described as follows: 1, pushing and stroking method: patients take a sitting position or the healthy side of the breast lying down, fully exposed chest. You can apply a little lubricant on the affected breast, and then the whole palm of both hands from the breast around the direction of the nipple 50 to 100 times, the action must be gentle and soothing. 2. Kneading and pressure method: Apply pressure to the affected breast with the small or large fissure on the palm of the hand, and apply repeated light kneading at the hard nodes, 100 times each in clockwise and counterclockwise directions. 3. Kneading, pinching, holding method: With the five fingers of the right hand, grasp and pinch the affected breast locally, kneading should be tightened and loosened, repeatedly 10 to 15 times. The left hand gently pushes the nipple outward several times to expand the milk ducts in the nipple. 4, oscillation method: the right hand small fish interval force, from the breast swollen nodes, along the breast root to the nipple direction for high-speed oscillation push, repeated 3 to 5 times. The effect is better when there is a slight feeling of heat in the area. The above massage methods should follow the “centripetal” principle, that is, from the breast around the direction of the nipple, which is also the direction of milk discharge along the duct. There may be some discomfort and even pain in the area of the node at first, but it usually disappears in a short time. In the early stages of the disease, a combination of these methods is required along with treatments such as hot compresses, intensive breastfeeding, and manual emptying of the milk. Although these methods, including massage, are simple and effective, it should be noted that if the local redness and swelling of the nodes increase within a short period of time, and there is a general discomfort such as increased body temperature and mental lethargy, then the patient may have suffered from bacterial infection, and further treatment is needed.
