If the bite is from a wild hamster, then anti-infection treatment as well as rabies vaccination is required regardless of whether it is bleeding or not. However, if it is a domesticated pet hamster, the need for the shot needs to be judged based on the state of health of the pet hamster itself. If the hamster is in very good health and its living environment is clean, then it only needs to be flushed and treated with a topical disinfectant for the location of the bite, but if the hamster itself is in poor health, then it needs to be treated in a hospital.
