According to the TNM staging standard of tongue cancer, stage IV tongue cancer means that the tumor has invaded the adjacent tissues and involved the deep endolingual and extralingual muscles, or lymph node metastasis, or metastasis to distant organs, and all of the above situations suggest that tongue cancer has developed to an advanced stage. Tongue cancer patients are generally divided into four stages according to the international TNM staging standard, which is based on the different scope of lesions, among which stage IV is the advanced stage. Most of the patients with stage IV tongue cancer have lost the chance of radical surgery, and patients generally cannot be cured by radical radiotherapy. Most of the patients can only choose comprehensive treatment mainly based on chemotherapy and targeting, and some patients with poor physical condition can only be given symptomatic pain relief, anti-infection and other treatments, therefore, the cure rate of patients with stage IV is low, and the prognosis of the patients is poor and the survival period is short.
