How to treat dementia in an 80+ year old

Dementia in more than 80 old people can be treated by general treatment and medication.
1. General treatment: usually, we should strengthen the management of dementia patients to prevent them from wandering off; suggest some brain activities; and ensure sufficient sleep. If the patient is already bedridden, nutritional intake should be ensured and nursing care should be strengthened to prevent lung infection and bedsores.
2. Medication: Patients can take drugs such as donepezil and strychnine A under doctor’s guidance, which can alleviate the progress of dementia to a certain extent. Patients with psychiatric symptoms can be given antidepressants such as citalopram and antipsychotic drugs such as olanzapine under the guidance of a doctor.
Dementia is a progressive disease, patients need to be carefully cared for and with medication symptomatic treatment to slow down the progress of the disease.
Medications should be used under the guidance of a physician, and should not be taken blindly on their own.
