Is it normal for babies to poop three times a day?

The number of times a baby has stools per day depends on the diet. Generally, breastfed babies have golden-yellow stools, mostly uniform paste, sour taste, not smelly, and more frequent stools, 2-4 times a day, and some children can reach 4-6 times or more. However, as long as the baby’s mental state is good, weight gain is normal, and there are no uncomfortable symptoms, it can be regarded as physiological diarrhea and does not need to be treated. After the addition of complementary foods, the number of stools decreases and becomes 1-2 times a day. Artificially fed babies, stools are light yellow, relatively dry, mostly formed, more stools, more smelly, less frequent stools, 1-2 times / day, prone to constipation. The stools of mixed-fed babies are similar to those of artificially fed babies, but they are softer and more yellow, and after the addition of complementary foods, the stools are close to those of adults in nature, once a day. Generally speaking, it is normal for babies to have 3 bowel movements a day, but if the number of bowel movements suddenly increases, for example, from 3 or 4 times a day to 7 or 8 times a day, you should be alert to whether your baby is sick. Observe the number of stools, but also pay attention to the stool properties. If the stool is okay, if it is a paste or dry, without mucus and blood, it is considered normal; on the contrary, if the stool is thin or watery, with mucus, mucus and blood, it is not normal. Parents need to judge whether their child is in a normal state based on the number of bowel movements and their child’s stool characteristics.
