Gingiva is a compound squamous epithelial oral mucosa attached to the neck of the teeth and the alveolar bone surface, which is normally pink, lustrous, tough and does not bleed easily when touched and chewed. When the gums are inflamed, there will be localized gingival fibers and connective tissues with obvious edema, a large number of inflammatory cells infiltrating in the middle, capillary hyperplasia and expansion of congestion, red and swollen gingival margin, bright and soft, and easy to bleed. On examination, poor oral hygiene was found, with a large amount of plaque, calculus and other contributing factors such as poor restorations, food impaction, and mouth breathing accumulating on the tooth surface near the gingival margin, with soft and fragile gingival texture, lack of elasticity, and deepening of the gingival sulcus. Patients often present with bleeding gums when brushing or biting hard objects, free gums and gingival papillae that are deep red or dark red, highly edematous, not adhering to the tooth surface, and can have oral odor. If there is redness and swelling of the gums, it is recommended that you go to the regular hospital stomatology department in a timely manner. Early gingivitis is a reversible lesion with a good prognosis, and it is recommended that you remove the local irritants in a timely manner so that the inflammation disappears quickly and the gum tissue returns to normal; if it is not treated, it is easy to develop into serious periodontitis over the years, at which time the alveolar bone resorption is irreversible and even loose teeth and self-loss occurs.
