Can ovarian cysts affect pregnancy?

Whether ovarian cysts can affect pregnancy is closely related to the size and nature of the cysts, but in most cases they do not affect normal pregnancy. Ovarian cysts are divided into physiological and pathological. Physiological cysts, such as follicular cysts and corpus luteum cysts, are usually small in size and do not require any special treatment as they do not cause any discomfort to the patient and do not affect pregnancy. If the cysts are larger than 5 cm and accompanied by symptoms such as lower abdominal swelling, pain, menstrual cycle disturbance and non-menstrual vaginal bleeding, they are usually pathological cysts caused by inflammation or endometriosis, which can interfere with ovulation and cause abdominal adhesions or decreased tubal function, thus affecting pregnancy. However, if the patient has normal ovaries on the other side and normal ovulation function, there is a possibility of pregnancy. Therefore, when a patient is suspected of having ovarian cysts, she should go to the hospital for relevant examinations in a timely manner. If the patient is diagnosed with pathological ovarian cysts, it is safer to have the cysts surgically cured before pregnancy.
