Erythromycin ointment is a macrolide, a topical drug with antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. It cannot be used for the treatment of rhinitis, and should be avoided for the eyes as well as the mucosal tissues of the mouth and nose to avoid causing local irritation and aggravating discomfort. Erythromycin ointment is mainly used for the treatment of small burns, infections of ulcerated surfaces and purulent skin diseases such as impetigo. The adverse reactions of this product may cause allergic reactions in addition to local irritation. Its contraindications are currently unknown. Precautions are that the drug should be discontinued if there is redness, swelling, itching and burning sensation at the site of application, and the drug should be washed off. Rhinitis has many causative factors and is often characterized by sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, nasal congestion and other symptoms. Treatment needs to choose different treatments for different causes and symptoms, while erythromycin ointment is not within the recommended range of standardized treatment for all rhinitis. Rhinitis should be treated with medication under the guidance of a physician, and should not be self-medicated to avoid adverse consequences.
