Seborrheic dermatitis, also known as seborrheic eczema, is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease. The head is a densely sebaceous area, and seborrheic dermatitis occurs more frequently on the scalp, where seborrheic dermatitis occurs mainly as an erythematous rash with free scales or scabs attached to the surface, often accompanied by varying degrees of itching. The cause of seborrheic dermatitis is still unknown and may be related to genetics and sebum metabolism. When seborrheic dermatitis occurs, it can be treated with topical medications to dissolve lipids, exfoliate keratin, and reduce inflammation and itching, as well as oral antihistamines, and antifungals, antibiotics, and glucocorticoids. It is believed that seborrheic dermatitis is chronic in nature and is prone to recurrent attacks if not treated properly.
