Stroke centers are medical units, usually in hospitals where the stroke center is part of both the emergency department, neurology, and neurosurgery. Stroke centers admit only stroke patients, and are a new model of care that combines traditional stroke treatments so that stroke patients can receive comprehensive care once they enter a stroke center. For example, if a patient comes to this hospital and is diagnosed with stroke, he or she will first be seen by the emergency department, and then neurology and neurosurgery will be called in for consultation. If necessary, neurosurgery can be performed directly, and if there is no indication for surgery, neurology can be used to treat the stroke, including intravenous thrombolysis and arterial thrombolysis in the emergency department. The neurology department will carry out the acute treatment, and after the patient’s condition is stabilized, the rehabilitation department can be asked to continue the rehabilitation treatment until the patient is discharged from the hospital.
