Thyroid crisis is a serious complication of hyperthyroidism and occurs mostly in patients with uncontrolled hyperthyroidism. The causes of thyroid crisis after thyroid surgery are mainly related to inadequate preoperative preparation, failure to effectively control hyperthyroidism before surgery, lowering of thyroid hormone levels, prolonged surgery, and excessive squeezing of the thyroid gland during surgery, resulting in the release of large amounts of thyroid hormones into the blood. Thyroid crisis has a rapid onset, is serious and has a high mortality rate, so prevention should be the main focus of thyroid crisis. Adequate preoperative preparation, careful intraoperative operation, close postoperative observation and timely detection of thyroid crisis aura can prevent thyroid crisis and effectively reduce thyroid morbidity and mortality.
