Hegu is located on the back of the hand, between the 1st and 2nd metacarpal bones, at the midpoint of the radial side of the second metacarpal bone. Hegu has the effects of calming and relieving pain, promoting menstruation and activating meridians, clearing heat and relieving symptoms. It is mainly used for treating fever, headache, redness and swelling of the eyes, epistaxis (nosebleed), hematemesis, sore throat, toothache, deafness, swelling of the face, slanting of the mouth and eyes , silence of the mouth in strokes, absence of sweating in febrile illnesses, excessive sweating, thirst, jaundice, dysmenorrhea, menstrual closure, and stagnant labor. Clinically, Hegu is used with cheek car point and Yingxiang point to treat toothache, facial pain, facial paralysis, cold, headache, fever, nasal congestion; and with Taichong point to treat epilepsy, headache, dizziness, hypertension.
